Real GDP Growth by State 2025
About This Dataset
Real GDP Growth by State 2025How the data is collected. Real GDP is BEA's GDP measured in chained 2017 dollars, which removes the effect of price changes so that years can be compared. We calculated each growth rate from BEA's unrounded 2024 and 2025 values in table SAGDP1.
Background. US real GDP grew 2.3% in 2025, and 17 of the 49 places in the chart grew faster than that. At the slow end, Minnesota (0.7%), North Dakota (0.5%) and Wyoming (0.1%) barely grew.
Limits. Growth rates for small economies can swing on a single industry, and they are often revised: this release already revised the 2018 to 2025 figures. Because real GDP is chained, state values do not add up exactly to the national total.
North Dakota's economy grew only 0.5% in real terms in 2025, yet its personal income rose 6.7%, the third-fastest of any state.
