Nuclear Share of Electricity by Country 2025

What this chart shows. The 20 countries where nuclear power made up the largest share of electricity generation in 2025, among the 78 countries in Ember's data that generated at least 10 TWh. France led with 68.8 per cent, followed by Slovakia at 66.4 per cent and Czechia at 42.3 per cent. Nuclear supplied 8.9 per cent of the world's electricity, down from 9.0 per cent.

How the data is collected. The share is electricity from nuclear reactors divided by total generation, from Ember's yearly dataset. For the United States the share, 17.4 per cent, matches the figures of the US Energy Information Administration once small rooftop solar is counted in the total.

Background. In absolute terms the United States generated the most nuclear electricity, 784.8 TWh, ahead of China with 487.1 TWh and France with 392.1 TWh. World nuclear output grew from 2,779 to 2,812 TWh, but its share fell because total generation grew faster.

Limits. A share can change without any reactor opening or closing, because of maintenance outages and changes in other sources. Among the 20, Belgium's share fell the most, from 41.2 to 36.0 per cent, and Slovakia's rose the most, from 61.8 to 66.4 per cent.
