Most Expensive Films Ever Made, Adjusted for Inflation

About This Dataset

Most Expensive Films Ever Made, Adjusted for Inflation
Comparing film budgets across decades only works once inflation is removed. This chart ranks the most expensive films ever made by production cost adjusted to current dollars, which promotes older epics that were extraordinarily costly for their time.
Analysis

Adjusted for inflation, Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) is the most expensive film ever made at $727 million in today's money, against a nominal cost of $536 million. 1 of these 13 films were made before 2000, which is what adjustment does to the ranking: budgets that looked enormous in their own decade are hidden by nominal figures. The gap between adjusted and nominal is widest for Cleopatra, whose adjusted cost is 10.5 times its nominal one.
