Longest Suspension Bridge Spans in the World

About This Dataset

Longest Suspension Bridge Spans in the World
The main span is the distance between a suspension bridge's two towers - the unsupported stretch, and the number engineers compete on. This chart ranks bridges by main span in metres and includes only spans already open to traffic.
Analysis

The 1915 Çanakkale Bridge has the longest main span at 2,023 metres, 32 metres longer than the Akashi Kaikyo Bridge. 7 of these 12 bridges are in China. Opening years tell the story of the discipline: the median here is 2019, and the shortest span shown, the Runyang Yangtze River Bridge at 1,490 metres, would have been a world record within living memory.
