World Population by Religion 2026
Share of the world population by religious affiliation. "Unaffiliated" covers atheists, agnostics and people with no religion, some of whom still hold religious beliefs, and every figure rests on self-identification in censuses and surveys rather than on attendance or practice.
Analysis
Christianity is the largest group at 28.8% of the world population, 3.2 points ahead of Islam on 25.6%. The two largest religions together account for 54.4%. The unaffiliated are the 3rd-largest group at 24.2%, ahead of every religion except the top two. The six categories here sum to 100.0%.
