Costliest Atlantic Hurricanes by Damage

About This Dataset

Costliest Atlantic Hurricanes by Damage
Damage in the dollars of the year the storm struck, not adjusted for inflation or for how much more property now sits on the coast. That is why the list leans recent: the same hurricane hitting the same coastline forty years apart produces a far larger bill the second time.
Analysis

Katrina (2005) caused $125 billion in damage, a figure it shares with Harvey (2017). The 12 storms here caused $880 billion between them. 7 of them struck in 2017 or later. The cheapest storm on this chart still cost $26.5 billion.
