About This Dataset
Countries With the Most Metro Stations 2026
Every metro station in a country added together, as listed in September 2026. Stations joined by a paid transfer count once. Only fully grade-separated rapid transit is included, so tram, light rail and commuter stations are left out even where they share a network map.
Analysis
China has 6,544 metro stations across 47 systems, 51.6% of the 12,682 counted here and 6.0 times the 1,083 of the United States. Ranks two to twelve run from 289 to 1,083 stations. The countries here average 86 stations per system. 11 of them run four or more separate systems.
