Annual ridership counts every passenger journey made on a metro system in a year. This chart ranks the busiest metro systems in the world by ridership in 2024, in millions; systems whose most recent published figure is for a different year are not included.
Analysis
Shanghai Metro carried 3,773.8 million passengers in 2024, the most of any metro system, ahead of Beijing Subway with 3,621.3 million. 10 of the 15 systems shown are in China.
