Countries With the Longest Metro Networks 2026
Every metro system in a country added together, measured by route length in kilometres in September 2026. Only fully grade-separated rapid transit counts; tram, light rail and commuter networks are excluded, which is why some countries with large urban rail systems sit lower than expected.
Analysis
China operates 12,239.6 km of metro across 47 systems - 61.9% of the 19,774 km listed here and 8.8 times the total of the United States, which ranks second on 1,395.7 km. Every country here runs more than one system, from 3 up to 47. Below the leader the field is tight: ranks two to twelve span 387 km to 1,396 km.
