Countries with the Highest Death Rate 2024
About This Dataset
Countries with the Highest Death Rate 2024
Countries ranked by deaths (per 1,000 people) in 2024, using World Bank figures for the 217 countries that reported that year. Monaco leads on 20.14, ahead of Bulgaria (15.60) and Serbia (14.90). Deaths per 1,000 people in a year, not adjusted for age. Countries with older populations record more deaths per head than countries with young ones, so a high rate is not a sign of worse health.
Analysis
Monaco (20.14), Bulgaria (15.60) and Serbia (14.90) take the top three. Across the twenty shown, values run from 20.14 down to 11.64, a spread of 8.50. Most of that spread sits between first and second alone (4.54 of 8.50), so Monaco stands apart from the rest of the table. The chart shows the twenty highest of 217 reporting countries, so it describes the top of the distribution rather than the world average.
