Netherlands Solar Share of Electricity by Year 2010-2025
About This Dataset
Netherlands Solar Share of Electricity by Year 2010-2025The Netherlands went from a rounding error to a fifth of its electricity in fifteen years: solar supplied 0.05 percent of Dutch power in 2010 and 21.1 percent in 2025, a 422-fold increase. Unlike most energy series, it never went backwards - all 15 year-on-year changes are increases. The steepest single year is 2022, up 4.5 points, followed by 2025 at 3.3 points; growth slowed to 1.5 points in 2024 before picking up again. In absolute terms solar rose from 0.06 TWh to 28.5 TWh, while total Dutch generation grew only from 118 TWh to 135 TWh. Solar therefore added more output than the whole increase in generation, displacing other sources as well as meeting new demand.
