Japan Nuclear Share of Electricity by Year 2010-2025
About This Dataset
Japan Nuclear Share of Electricity by Year 2010-2025This is the sharpest reversal in any national energy series. Nuclear supplied 25.29% of Japan's electricity in 2010, fell to 14.76% in 2011 and 1.63% in 2012, and reached exactly 0% in 2014 after the reactor fleet was shut down for review following the 2011 Fukushima accident. Restarts have been slow: the share passed 5% only in 2019 and stands at 9.14% in 2025, still barely a third of the 2010 level fifteen years later. The recovery is also uneven, dipping in 2020 and 2022 as individual reactors went offline again.
