About This Dataset
Countries with the Highest Calorie Intake Per CapitaIreland tops the list with 3,884 calories available per person per day, followed by the United States (3,781) and Belgium (3,769) - all far above the roughly 2,000-2,500 calories an adult actually needs. Turkey (3,712) is a striking entry, ranking ahead of wealthy Western European states, while Austria (3,694) and Iceland (3,653) round out the top six. The rest of the top twelve are almost entirely high-income European and North American nations: Romania, Canada, Germany, Poland, Israel and Italy, all supplying more than 3,500 calories per head. The abundance shown here helps explain why obesity is widespread across these regions, though the figures reflect food supply rather than consumption, so a meaningful share is lost to waste rather than eaten.
