About This Dataset
World's Busiest International Air Routes by Seats (2024)Hong Kong-Taipei is the world's busiest international route by a wide margin, with 6.78 million seats, over 1.3 million more than second-placed Cairo-Jeddah (5.47M). Asia-Pacific dominates the ranking, accounting for eight of the ten routes, most of them short cross-border hops between major regional hubs such as Kuala Lumpur-Singapore (5.38M) and the two Seoul-Japan routes to Tokyo and Osaka. The Middle East contributes Cairo-Jeddah, heavily driven by pilgrimage and labour travel, and Dubai-Riyadh (4.31M). Strikingly, only one long-haul intercontinental route makes the list: New York JFK-London Heathrow (4.01M), the sole transatlantic entry and one of the busiest premium business routes in the world. The data underlines how international capacity is dominated by short, high-frequency regional corridors rather than long-haul flying.
