About This Dataset
World's Busiest Airports by Aircraft Movements (2025)Chicago O'Hare handled the most aircraft movements of any airport, with 860,015 takeoffs and landings, well ahead of Atlanta (807,625) even though Atlanta carries far more passengers overall. This gap reflects fleet mix: O'Hare operates more frequent flights using smaller regional jets, while Atlanta relies on larger, fuller aircraft. US airports overwhelmingly dominate, taking seven of the top ten places, including Dallas-Fort Worth (743,394), Denver (701,335) and Las Vegas (586,046). The only non-US entries are Shanghai Pudong (557,046), Guangzhou Baiyun (550,512) and Istanbul (549,309), clustered tightly at the bottom of the list. The ranking shows that movement volume and passenger volume measure different things, since busy hub-and-spoke operations can generate enormous flight counts.
