Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana together account for roughly 60% of the world's entire cocoa supply, making West Africa the undisputed heartland of global chocolate production. Interestingly, the 2023–24 crop season saw steep production declines in both leading nations due to the El Niño weather phenomenon and widespread disease, temporarily pushing global cocoa futures to historic highs above $10,000 per metric ton. Ecuador stands out as the world's premier producer of fine-flavour cocoa, prized by luxury chocolatiers for its complex floral notes. Despite contributing only a fraction of West Africa's volume, Latin American nations continue to expand their market share through quality-focused, single-origin cultivation.
