Countries ranked by total private sector investment in artificial intelligence startups and companies in 2025, measured in billions of USD according to Stanford HAI AI Index and PitchBook data. The United States accounts for approximately 50% of all global private AI investment — concentrating AI capital in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York, and Boston in a feedback loop where talent, capital, and infrastructure cluster together, making it increasingly difficult for other countries to develop competitive AI ecosystems despite significant government-led programmes in China, the EU, and the UK.
