Hindu temples are often vast complexes of shrines, halls, courtyards and gateways, so they are compared by the area of the whole temple site. This chart ranks the largest Hindu temples in the world by site area in square metres; planned temples are not included.
Analysis
Angkor Wat covers 1,626,000 square metres, 2.5 times the 655,591 of BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham (New Jersey). 7 of the 12 temples shown are in India. Together the temples on this chart cover 5,350,725 square metres, and the smallest of them, Nataraja Temple, still covers 160,000 square metres.
