About This Dataset
Most-Produced Civil Aircraft of All Time
Civil aircraft ranked by total units built across the whole production run, however long it lasted. Light trainers and utility singles dominate: they are ordered in numbers no airliner reaches, which is why a four-seat propeller aircraft outranks every jet ever made. Types still in production are recorded as a minimum, so their totals only rise.
Analysis
Cessna 172 leads with 44,000 built, 1.34 times the 32,778 of the Piper PA-28 series. 10 of the 12 types were designed in the United States. The 12 types here account for 248,281 aircraft between them. Production began between 1938 and 1988.
