Countries ranked by births per woman in 2023, using World Bank figures for the 217 countries that reported that year. Somalia leads on 6.13, ahead of Chad (6.12) and Niger (6.06). The total fertility rate is the number of children a woman would have if she lived through her childbearing years at the birth rates recorded in that year. It is a snapshot of one year, not a count of the children women have actually had.
