GDP Per Capita in China by Year, 1990-2024
About This Dataset
GDP Per Capita in China by Year, 1990-2024China passed 1,000 dollars a head between 2000 and 2002, 5,000 between 2010 and 2012, and 10,000 between 2016 and 2018, so each of those milestones arrived roughly eight years after the last. The steepest decade is 2004 to 2014, when the figure went from 1,531 to 7,781, adding 6,250 dollars. Growth in dollar terms has been slower since: the ten years to 2024 added 5,512 dollars, and the last six years of the series added only 3,207, from 10,086 in 2018 to 13,293 in 2024. Because this measure is in current dollars it tracks the exchange rate as well as output, which is why the pace flattens even where domestic growth did not.
