Global Inflation Rate by Year, 1985-2024
About This Dataset
Global Inflation Rate by Year, 1985-2024World inflation was a 1990s problem long before it was a 2020s one. The world rate was 9.1 percent in 1995 and 8.1 percent in 1990, then fell for two decades to a low of 1.4 percent in 2015. The 2022 spike that dominated the news took the world back to 8.1 percent, exactly the 1990 figure and still below 1995. It also unwound quickly: 5.8 percent in 2023 and 3.0 percent in 2024, close to the 3.4 percent of 2000 and the 3.3 of 2010. The long view is that the unusual period was not 2022 but the decade before it.
