About This Dataset
AFC Asian Cup Titles by CountryJapan lead with four titles, ahead of Saudi Arabia and Iran on three each, and all four of Japan's came after 1992, making them the defining team of the modern era despite not winning any of the first nine editions. Iran's three were the reverse, all won consecutively between 1968 and 1976. The competition is one of the most open in world football, with nine different nations winning it. Israel's 1964 title is a historical relic, won before Israeli football left the AFC for UEFA. Australia's 2015 win came just eight years after they joined the confederation from Oceania. Qatar's two, in 2019 and 2023, are the most recent back-to-back successes.
