About This Dataset
German Football Titles by Federal StateBavaria leads with 48 titles, ahead of North Rhine-Westphalia on 26, and together the two states account for roughly three quarters of every German championship. Bavaria's total is not a one-club story alone: Bayern Munich supply 35, but 1. FC Nurnberg add nine and Greuther Furth three, making it historically deep as well as currently dominant. North Rhine-Westphalia is the opposite, spreading its 26 titles across at least seven clubs including Borussia Dortmund, Schalke 04 and Borussia Monchengladbach, the most balanced state in Germany. The drop after the top two is severe, with Baden-Wurttemberg third on just nine. Saxony's five and Berlin's five are largely historical, dating to the pre-war and East German eras.
