Highest-Grossing Media Franchises of All Time
About This Dataset
Highest-Grossing Media Franchises of All TimePokemon leads at an estimated 115 billion dollars, almost double second-placed Mickey Mouse & Friends on 61.2 billion and larger than the eighth, ninth and tenth franchises combined. Merchandise and licensing, not films, drive this ranking: Pokemon began as a video game and Hello Kitty at 33.5 billion has almost no film business at all, while the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the highest-grossing film series ever made, places only eighth at 35.2 billion. Disney is the strongest owner, controlling Mickey Mouse & Friends, Winnie-the-Pooh, Star Wars, Disney Princess and the MCU, five of the top ten. Longevity matters greatly: six of the ten franchises were created before 1980, and Winnie-the-Pooh dates to 1924.
