About this chart race
In 2011 Nokia was the phone the world browsed the web on: 38.4% of all mobile web traffic, against Apple's 27.5% and BlackBerry's 14.4%. Samsung was fourth, on 11%. Nokia's share then fell in every single year that followed - 29.3, 21.4, 13.3, 9.2, 5.5 - and by 2025 it was 0.21%.
Samsung passed both Apple and Nokia in 2013, on 25.5% to Apple's 24.0% and Nokia's 21.4%, and stayed top for ten straight years. The end of that run was the closest thing in this data to a photo finish: Samsung held on by 0.45 points in 2021 and by only 0.21 points in 2022, before Apple went clear in 2023, 29.0% to 25.4%.
BlackBerry is the sharpest fall of all. Third in the world on 14.4% in 2011, it was down to 1.9% by 2014 and 0.01% by 2021, and after 2022 it stops appearing in the data at all.
What replaced them is Chinese. No Chinese brand was in the 2011 top ten. In 2025 Xiaomi (11.0%), Vivo (6.1%), Oppo (5.8%), Realme (4.2%) and Huawei (2.5%), together with Infinix, Tecno, OnePlus and Honor, account for 35.9% of the world's mobile web traffic between them. Five brands from the 2011 top ten - Nokia, BlackBerry, Sony, HTC and LG - are missing from the 2025 one, and the number of brands holding at least 1% has gone from six to thirteen.
The figures are shares of mobile web traffic measured by StatCounter, not units shipped, so they describe which phones are actually in people's hands and online rather than what left a factory. StatCounter labels BlackBerry by its old company name, RIM; it is written here as BlackBerry.
This animated ranking shows how share of mobile web traffic changed across 26 series between 2011 and 2025. The bars re-order themselves as the years advance, so overtakes are visible as they happen rather than hidden inside a table. Use the list on the left to choose exactly who competes, drag the slider to jump to any year, or open the table view to read the underlying numbers.
As of 2025, Apple leads with 26.9 %. The highest figure recorded anywhere in this data belongs to Nokia (38.4).
