About this chart race
Three different games have been number one. The Sims 2 holds it at the 2013 year-end on 20 million, Minecraft takes it in 2014 and keeps it for five years, and PUBG takes it in 2019 with the biggest single-year move in the race — 24 million to 42 million — and has held it ever since, finishing on 41 million after the source trimmed it. The turnover underneath is almost total: eight of the ten best-selling PC games of 2013 have dropped out of the top ten, and only Minecraft and Diablo III are still in it. What replaced them are games that were nowhere in 2013. Stardew Valley goes from 1 million in 2016 to 26 million, a 26-fold rise; Rust from 1 million to 20 million; Terraria from 3 million to 32 million; Euro Truck Simulator 2 from 2 million to 22 million; Garry's Mod from 3 million to 25.4 million. Minecraft's own PC count runs 13.3 million to 33 million, where it has sat unchanged since 2019. The newest arrival is the strangest: Meccha Chameleon, made by two Japanese developers, enters the 2026 list straight at 20 million. The top ten held 124 million copies in 2013 and 260 million in 2026.
