About this chart race

The United States has the largest annual nuclear electricity output throughout this comparison. In 2025 it generated 784.78 TWh, followed by China at 487.61 TWh and France at 392.07 TWh. China rose from 16.74 TWh in 2000 and passed France in 2020.

Japan generated 319.12 TWh in 2000, fell to zero in 2014, and recovered to 94.09 TWh in 2025. Germany fell from 169.61 TWh in 2000 to zero in 2024 and 2025. These are annual electricity volumes, not reactor capacity, nuclear weapons, or the share of electricity supplied by nuclear power.

Coverage is 12 selected countries: those that appeared in the annual top ten in the source during 2000–2025 and have a complete 26-year series. Regional aggregates are excluded. Ukraine also appeared in the historical top ten, but is omitted because this source has no values after 2022; its missing years are not treated as zero or carried forward. Rankings therefore refer to the selected countries, not a complete global league table.

This animated ranking shows how annual nuclear electricity generation changed across 12 series between 2000 and 2025. The bars re-order themselves as the years advance, so overtakes are visible as they happen rather than hidden inside a table. Use the list on the left to choose exactly who competes, drag the slider to jump to any year, or open the table view to read the underlying numbers.

As of 2025, United States leads with 784.78 TWh.
