About this chart race
Bitcoin was the largest cryptocurrency at the end of all 14 years shown. Second place changed hands four times: Litecoin in 2013, XRP in 2014 and 2015, Ethereum in 2016, XRP again in 2017 and 2018, and Ethereum in every year since 2019. Bitcoin and XRP are the only two coins from the 2013 top ten still in it in 2026. The top ten grew from $10.3 billion in 2013 to $2,636.2 billion in 2026, while Bitcoin's share of it fell from 88% to 64%, with lows of 47% in 2017 and 2022.
This animated ranking shows how market capitalisation changed across 39 series between 2013 and 2026. The bars re-order themselves as the years advance, so overtakes are visible as they happen rather than hidden inside a table. Use the list on the left to choose exactly who competes, drag the slider to jump to any year, or open the table view to read the underlying numbers.
As of 2026, Bitcoin leads with 1,696.79.
