About this chart race

Finland won the very first Miss Universe in 1952 and shared the lead with France, Sweden and the United States while everyone still had one title each. The United States pulled ahead with its second win in 1956 and has never been caught since — 70 years at the top, and nine titles in all, the most recent in 2022.

The real movement is behind it. Venezuela did not win at all until 1979, then took seven titles in 34 years, including back-to-back wins in 2008 and 2009, and closed to within two of the United States by 2013. Puerto Rico climbed to five, and the Philippines and Mexico to four each, with Mexico's fourth arriving in 2025.

The competition has also spread out. Of the 35 countries that have won, 18 have won exactly once, and two of those firsts are very recent: Nicaragua in 2023 and Denmark in 2024. Since 2015 the crown has gone to nine different countries in eleven pageants.

One year needs explaining. In 2002 Russia's Oxana Fedorova was crowned and then dethroned, and Panama's Justine Pasek took the title. The count here follows the source and credits 2002 to Panama, which is why Russia does not appear in the chart at all. Every other year from 1952 to 2025 has exactly one titleholder.

This animated ranking shows how cumulative miss universe titles changed across 35 series between 1952 and 2025. The bars re-order themselves as the years advance, so overtakes are visible as they happen rather than hidden inside a table. Use the list on the left to choose exactly who competes, drag the slider to jump to any year, or open the table view to read the underlying numbers.

As of 2025, United States leads with 9.
