About This Dataset
Riders with the Most Motorcycle Grand Prix World ChampionshipsAcross all classes, Giacomo Agostini's 15 world titles are the most in the history of Grand Prix motorcycle racing, achieved by dominating the 350cc and 500cc classes simultaneously in the 1960s and 70s. Spain's Ángel Nieto follows with 13, all won in the smaller 50cc and 125cc categories. A remarkable four-way tie on nine titles then features riders from very different eras: 1960s legend Mike Hailwood, 1950s specialist Carlo Ubbiali, and modern greats Valentino Rossi and Marc Márquez. The presence of Rossi and Márquez alongside champions from seventy years earlier shows how the all-time list rewards versatility and longevity. Below them, John Surtees and Phil Read (both seven) are notable as riders who won titles on two wheels and, in Surtees's case, later in Formula One cars.
