About This Dataset
Motor Vehicle Production by Country (2024)China utterly dominates global vehicle manufacturing, building 31.28 million vehicles in 2024, roughly a third of the world's total and nearly three times as many as second-placed United States (10.56 million). Japan (8.23M) ranks third, and together the top three account for about half of all vehicles made on Earth. A cluster of mid-sized producers follows closely: India (6.01M) has overtaken the traditional European giants, while Mexico (4.20M), South Korea (4.13M) and Germany (4.07M) are separated by barely 130,000 units. The presence of Mexico, Thailand (1.47M) and Spain (2.38M) reflects how much assembly has shifted toward lower-cost export hubs. The data shows global car-making is increasingly centred on Asia rather than its historic European and American heartlands.
