It reached an all-time low of 0.72 in 2023, meaning roughly seven children for every ten women. The 2024 figure of 0.75 is the first year-on-year increase since 2015, though it leaves the rate at around a third of the 2.1 replacement level. South Korea first fell below replacement in 1983 and first fell below one child per woman in 2018.
