India's total exceeds what many nations earn from their largest export industry, making its diaspora one of the country's biggest sources of foreign currency. Asia dominates, supplying India, the Philippines, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China. The most unexpected entries are France on $38.8 billion and Germany on $22.2 billion, wealthy economies that appear because of cross-border workers and large expatriate populations, showing remittances are not solely a developing-world story. Mexico's $67.6 billion flows almost entirely from a single corridor, its workers in the United States.
